Remember when I asked you to vote on kitchen cabinet colors? I didn’t expect the vote to be a tie.
Our cabinets remained orangey-oak, and I kept pondering. Finally, I ruled out dark stained cabinets. Not because I don’t love them, but because i was afraid it would make our small, windowless kitchen too dark, and because our living room and master bedroom floors are a similar oak color to our cabinets.
So that leaves white, which I wasn’t quite settled on. Searching for inspiration, I came across this image:
I sent the photo to the husband, and he loved it. We spent our night removing the hardware we just put on and priming the lower cabinets. Saturday, we grabbed some paint chips from Lowes and Home Depot after deciding the sample we bought Friday night was way too light. We took them home and compared them to the above image and our current countertop.
We settled on Valspar’s Mark Twain House Ombra Gray. If it is good enough for Mark Twain…
Phase 1 of kitchen renovation includes painting the cabinets and re-tiling the backsplash. Our top choice for tile right now is 1 inch white hexagon tile. Anthony and I are going to a DIY tiling workshop at Home Depot on Thursday and will be borrowing some tools from my handy mother next time we visit Fort Worth. Stay tuned for the reveal, but for now here’s a sneak peek of step 1, phase 1:
Depending on how long we stay in this house, a proposed phase two (at least 2-3 years down the line) would include new stone countertops and stainless appliances. I’m loving these marble countertops that wrap down.
I’ll leave you with some obligatory Mark Twain Quotes.
“The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.”
“Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint.”
“The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read.”
“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.”
“In a good bookroom you feel in some mysterious way that you are absorbing the wisdom contained in all the books through your skin, without even opening them.”
“Life is short, Break the Rules. Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly. Love truly. Laugh uncontrollably. And never regret anything that makes you smile.”
“I’ve lived through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.”
“The secret to getting ahead is getting started.”
“There was never yet an uninteresting life. Such a thing is an impossibility. Inside of the dullest exterior there is a drama, a comedy, and a tragedy.”
OMG, LOVE it! Completely updates the kitchen! Even looks great without updating the backsplash – great job, guys!
Perfeeeeeeeect!!!
